Return to School in September 2020

Government guidance has made it clear that all pupils are expected to
access full time education, therefore school attendance will be
mandatory from September 2020.  School have put measures in place and
completed risk assessments following guidance to ensure that they are
COVID secure and they look forward to welcoming all pupils back to
school at the beginning of the autumn term.

I would to take this opportunity to remind parents/carers that they have
the duty to secure the regular attendance of their child under Section
444 of the Education Act 1996 which says:

“If a child of compulsory school age, who is a registered pupil at a
school fails to attend regularly at the school, their parent is guilty
of an offence”.

Please be aware, the Local Authority may take legal proceedings against
parents who fail to comply with the Law and this may result in:

•A Penalty Notice payable up to £120 fine.

•Prosecution under Section 444 (1) Education Act 1996, where if
convicted you may be fined up to £1,000.

•Prosecution under Section 444 (1a) Education Act 1996 where if
convicted you may be fined up to £2,500 and/or 3 months imprisonment.

If you have any concerns regarding your child's attendance I will be
available in school to offer support and advice.
