At Easterside Academy, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that education is about far more than academic success; it is about helping children become confident, resilient, respectful and responsible individuals who are well prepared for life beyond primary school. Our personal development offer enables pupils to develop the knowledge, skills, values and experiences they need to thrive both now and in the future.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to support pupils' personal, social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Through PSHE, wellbeing, relationships education, assemblies and wider curriculum opportunities, pupils learn about health and wellbeing, positive relationships, diversity, citizenship, British values and life in modern Britain. Voice 21 oracy approaches help pupils develop confidence, communication skills and the ability to express and justify their views respectfully.
We are proud of our rich programme of enrichment opportunities. Through our "101 Things to Do Before You Leave Easterside Academy" initiative, pupils access a wide range of memorable experiences including educational visits, outdoor learning, performances, swimming, first aid, careers activities, cultural events, residential visits and opportunities to represent the academy. These experiences broaden horizons, build cultural capital and create lasting memories.
Pupil leadership is an important part of academy life. Children are encouraged to take responsibility and make a positive contribution through roles such as Smart School Council representatives, Eco Warriors, sports leaders and classroom responsibilities. These opportunities help develop confidence, leadership, teamwork and active citizenship.
Wellbeing and inclusion underpin our approach. Through Thrive, pastoral support and strong relationships, we ensure that all pupils feel safe, valued and supported. We work hard to remove barriers so that every child, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, can participate fully in all aspects of academy life.
By the time pupils leave Easterside Academy, they have developed the confidence, character, resilience and aspirations needed for the next stage of their education.
